The proximity of the suburb to Bremer River made it suitable for a livestock sales yard as well as a soap and candle works in Lobb Street. The Ipswich to Harrisville railway line ran roughly parallel to Lobb Street, close to where an abattoir operated. Churchill’s post office opened way back in 1892.
