Darra is a Brisbane suburb located about 14km southwest of the Brisbane central business district. The suburb is surrounded by the suburbs Jamboree Heights, Seventeen Mile Rocks, Oxley, Sumner, Richlands, and Inala. Sumner was known as Darra up until 1969 when it became a separate suburb. 

The very first subdivisions in Darra occurred in 1864. Houses are mainly of the Queenslander style built between the 40s and 50s. Most blocks in the suburb are large enough to be subdivided. In fact, there are now many new homes and townhouses in the suburb, which has increased Darra’s population and geographical boundaries. Darra got its name from the Aboriginal word which means “stones”. In 1954, the Darra RSL Memorial Hall was opened. 

Darra is home to two primarily schools, Darra State School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Because of the two primary schools in the suburb, it’s becoming more popular with families with children who are moving to the area. Darra also has a railway station that provides access to regular Queensland Rail City network services going to Brisbane central business district, Ipswich, Rosewood, and Springfield.
