The suburb is residential in the Pine Rivers district and originally began at the junction of the Bruce Highway and Anzac Avenue, the road going to Redcliffe. The area has been known as Mango Hill since the 1950s but was only officially declared as a suburb in 1980.
Mango Hill is home to one heritage listing: Anzac Avenue. In 2006, the northern part of Mango Hill was subdivided to form the suburb of North Lakes by Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water. The Mango Hill railway station was built in 2016
