Newtown is a small, residential suburb of Ipswich in Queensland, Australia. It is located 2km east of Central Ipswich and is surrounded by the suburbs of Ipswich, East Ipswich, Booval, Silkstone, and Eastern Heights. The suburb adjoins Limestone Park and Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School. It is bordered by Queens Park to the west, to the north by Brisbane Road which is the city’s main arterial link to the Ipswich Motorway.

 A small set of shops lies on the five-way intersection where Brisbane Road, Queen Victoria Parade, Glebe Road, and Chermside Road meet. The suburb got its name from John Rankin’s Newtown Estate which was subdivided and sold in 1865. The suburb is serviced by East Ipswich railway station.

 The station provides access to regular Queensland Rail City network services to Brisbane, Ipswich, and Rosewood. Newton contains several heritage-listings including Rockton, a house at 4 Rockton Street, and St Michaels Nursing Home at 68 Chermside Street. Newtown is home to Spring Garden Park and Newtown Park. Up to the 1990s, Newtown’s northern boundary was Glebe Street but it is now Brisbane Road. The northern side of Glebe Street has a row of interwar houses that are representative if the suburb’s housing stock.
