Richlands is an outer suburb of Brisbane and is located 16km southwest of the central business district. It is a predominantly industrial suburb that adjoins Wacol and Inala. The other suburbs that surround Richlands are Wacol, Carole Park, Ellen Grove, Forest Lake, Inala, and Darra. The suburb of Richlands features the crossover of the Ipswich Motorway (M7) and the Centenary Motorway (M5) and is home to Queensland Lions Football Club who play in the Brisbane Premier League. 

Early industries in the suburb include dairy and poultry farming, honey production, and table grape growing. Nowadays, the suburb is home to a number of recreational clubs including the Brisbane West Tennis Centre which opened in the early 1980s. Other recreational clubs in Richlands include Richland Tenpin which opened in 1991 and the Darra Oxley Pony Club. Richlands once had a drive-in theatre that opened in the late 1970s but it closed towards the end of 2000, making it the last drive-in theatre to operate in Brisbane. 

Up until industrialisation, Richlands was regarded as an outlying district of Darra which had a railway station. The Queensland cement works and a developing residential area in the early post World War II years. Richlands had numerous farmers and poultry producers as well as a rural primary school and a general store in Archerfield Road. The Housing Commission began the planned suburb of Inala in the early 1960s on Richland’s eastern boundary but Richlands was left alone for the most part. In the last 1980s, the Ipswich Highway was constructed and therefore improved motorised access to Richlands.
