Stretton is a suburb on the south side of Brisbane, Australia and is located 17km from the Brisbane central business district. It borders Sunnybank Hills, Calamvale, Kuraby, Karawatha, and Drewvale. During the early 19th century, Stretton and a lot of today’s suburbs around the Sunnybank area were once a part of a vast area of land known as Coopers Plains. In the year of 1861, the current Governor Bowen declared a wide area which included the present suburb Eight Mile Plains to Stretton as a Brisbane Agricultural Reserve. 

The Brisbane Agricultural Reserve was originally used for timber but was later on discovered to be good farming land. Because of this, settlers quickly turned the area into farms that produced fruit, vegetables, and poultry. The Stretton suburb was gazetted as a suburb of Brisbane in 1972 and was named after George Stretton, a settler, postmaster, and hotelier at Browns Plains in the 1870s. The dwellings in the suburb are usually stand-alone houses that are generally modern, tile, and brick. There are only a few exceptions. The northwest corner of Stretton includes many huge, multi-storey mansions. As for the topography of the suburb, the northern part includes several hills but it flattens out as the land stretches towards the south.

The southern part has more vegetation as it joins Karawatha Forest to the southeast and the Calamvale Creek wetlands on the southwest. Stretton is home to Hope Christian Assembly and Stretton State College. Hope Christian Assembly is a multicultural Pentecostal Church that is affiliated with Australian Christian Churches. The church holds their services at Stretton State College, which is located at the southern end of the suburb. The suburb has a number of small local shops but it also has a Calamvale Village on Kameruka Street and Sunnybank Hills Shopping Centre on Hellawell Road to provide basic shopping.
