Its name comes from William Underwood, an early property road in Rochedale Road between Springwood Road and Underwood Road. Underwood was gazetted as a suburb in 1975. It is home to the housing estates of Arriva and Jacaranda. Part of the suburb’s east originally was part of Albert Shire, in a far-flung area in Rochedale.
