Waterford once had a station on the disused highway between Bethania and Beaudesert. In 1871, the Morning Star Hotel was built in the suburb. The Waterford local-government division was formed in 1879. In 1888, the railway from Bethania to Beaudesert ran through the suburb. By 2004, the line station was closed.
