Yamanto is a suburb in the City of Ipswich in Queensland, Australia. It is located about 45km from Brisbane and 6km from Ipswich. Surrounding the suburb are the suburbs of One Mile, Churchill, Flinders View, Deebing Heights, and Purga. It is bounded on the south by the Cunningham Highway.
The suburb’s name was from a former cotton plantation that was originally named “Yamahanto”. Previous names for the area include “Loamside” and “Mine Accident”. The names were given to the railway station in the Yamanto area on the now-defunct Dugandan railway line.
The urban division began east of Goddards Road in the 1980s. It’s located immediately south of the Ipswich municipal boundary and Winston Street. By 2015, the suburb has seen a growth corridor being developed in the adjacent Ripley Valley in Ripley, Queensland. Yamanto has two hotels, a shopping centre, and two kindergartens.
