Yeerongpilly is a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The suburb is located 8km south of the Brisbane central business district and is surrounded by Tennyson, Yeronga, Annerley, Moorooka, and Rocklea. “Yeerongpilly” is derived from the Aboriginal word “yarung,” which means sandy or gravelly, or “yurong,” which means rain and another Aboriginal word “pilly” which means gully or watercourse. 

The suburb grew from an area called “Boggo”, which was logged for timber for Brisbane. A small section of the suburb’s northeastern boundary runs along Ipswich Road. In 1875, the Brisbane to Ipswich railway line, which passes through Yeerongpilly, was opened. Upon the introduction of rural local government to Queensland, the Yeerongpilly division was formed in 1879. 

A large, rural area extending from South Brisbane to the Logan River and from Logan Road to Goodna and Greenbank in the west. The Yeerongpilly railway station provides access to regular Queensland Rail City network services to Beenleigh, Ferny Grove, and Brisbane.
