Kuraby is one of the many suburbs of the City of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. It is situated 16km by road southeast of the City of Brisbane. The suburb is surrounded by Runcorn, Stretton, Karawatha, Woodridge, Underwood, Rochedale, and Eight Mile Plains. The suburb is situated between the Brisbane River and the Logan River so it tends to have a somewhat drier landscape than other parts of Brisbane. 

Kuraby’s topography ranges from high hills with very poor soil to low, very fertile soil areas. There’s a number of parks situated within the area that cater to all types of activities from sports to leisure. The local council has reserved a large tract of native bush in the area surrounding many of these parks. This has ensured that many of the wildlife species of the area survive. The Duke and Duchess of York opened the new Parliament House, Canberra, in 1927. 

Four years later, they toured Australia and a one night’s rest was arranged. The Royal Train was brought to the passing loop at Kuraby station and kept there securely with its pilot train. The timetable was rearranged to enable them to have an uninterrupted evening. This is the event that put the name of Kuraby on the map. Kuraby was once known as Eight Mile Plains. The settlement of Kuraby began in 1860 when the Hollosons and Bakers cleared land and It was in 1975 that the name “Kuraby” was officially gazetted.
