Runcorn is a suburb on the south side of Brisbane, Queensland. It is located 19km from the Brisbane central business district and is surrounded by Sunnybank, Sunnybank Hills, Calamvale, Stretton, Karawatha, Kuraby, and Eight Mile Plains. Both Beenleigh and Warrigal Roads run through the suburb and are the primary links toward inner-city Brisbane and beyond. 

Much of the suburb is bordered by the Bulimba Creek, with the secondary source for the creek found within the suburb. The Jagera Aboriginal people occupied most of the land south of the Brisbane River; Runcorn would have been in the territory of the Chepara clan of Eight Mile Plains, Queensland. Runcorn was originally a part of Coopers Plains and was designated as the Brisbane Agricultural Reserve. 

The Williams family were the first to settle in the suburb in the year 1868. Reverend J. McLaren followed a decade later. Rev. McLaren named his farm Runcorn after Runcorn, Cheshire, England. Mrs. Hill and Mr. Story are among other early settlers. The railway began to run through Runcorn in 1885, and further settlement came accordingly. In 1886, the Runcorn Bone Mill was started by Messrs Main, Clazy, and Smith, with the fertiliser being used by farmers from regions as far away as New Zealand.
